My to-do list for a no-bummer summer

You know that thing when you go in for your first day of work in 2015, hopped up on caffeine and excited to talk about your professional resolutions, and instead have your job eliminated?

...I hope you don't know what that's like. I never dreamed I'd know what that was like, yet here we are.

If you know me, you know I'm a planner. I thrive when I'm creating and improving processes and I love routine. Lately, that's meant planning the number of cover letters I send out every week, attempting consistency at the gym, and honoring my almost-daily visits to my favorite local coffee shop. Even on my slowest days, I draw up to-do lists to keep myself motivated. (Yes, it usually includes "shower." Yes, crossing it off feels great.)

But while my life currently bears a likeness to the quiet, flexible summer vacations of my childhood (minus hours of Dawson's Creek reruns), I'm ready to embrace my penchant for planning and, with that, embrace everything Chicago and the summer season have to offer. Enter: my to-do list for a no-bummer summer.

  • Take a boat out on Lake Michigan
  • Go to a Cubs game
  • Grill/BBQ outside
  • Make the voyage to Rainbow Cone
  • Get back into blogging
  • Watch the sun rise
  • Chow down after a late-night encounter with the tamale guy
  • Make an entire meal from farmers market goods
  • Attend an Art Institute event
  • Walk the Bloomingdale Trail from end to end
  • Spend a day at the beach
  • Drink cocktails on a rooftop
  • Fly a kite
  • Watch a movie outside
  • See a fireworks show up close
  • Make ice cream from scratch
  • Get a job (heyyyy)
  • Take a picnic to the park
  • Light sparklers. Spinning optional.
  • Continue to deepen my knowledge of coffee
  • Enjoy a concert at Pritzker Pavilion

I could use so many words to explain 2015 so far, but "unexpected" is probably best.

There are a lot of unknown factors still in my life, but the extent to which I enjoy my summer won't be one of them. Enjoy it with me, yes?
